County are the lowest-ranked team still remaining in the FA Cup this season

Notts County stunned Wigan with two late goals in their fourth-round replay to set up a clash with Fulham in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

League Two County, the lowest-ranked side remaining in the competition this season, eventually took the lead via a powerful header from Stephen Hunt.

Gary Caldwell then turned a Ben Davies cross into his own net only three minutes later to silence the crowd.

Wigan will rue a host of saves from County goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The hosts, who came back to draw the first game 2-2, were on top for long periods but failed to find a way past the inspired keeper who turned in a performance reminiscent of his father Peter.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez did field a weakened team but that should take nothing away from a County side who were already enjoying their best Cup run in 16 years.

The Magpies' board of directors will no doubt be delighted at the prospect of another money-spinning away trip to a Premier League that will help the club's battle to get out of debt.

And with a place in the last 16 now secured, County fans will be left to wonder how far their incredible run can go in what has been such a topsy-turvy campaign.

Martinez, meanwhile, will surely be frustrated that cup-tied new signing Victor Moses was unavailable for selection.

Jason Scotland's place up front may be under threat after the teenager's arrival and the striker failed do his prospects much good after fluffing a one-on-one with Schmeichel early on.

But that aside, genuine chances were few and far between in the opening stages - in no small part due to a distinct lack of urgency from the hosts.

County seemed happy to sit back and wait for an opportunity on the county attack, although top-scorer Lee Hughes did force Vladimir Stojkovic into a smart save from range on the half-hour mark.

It was not to be the visitors' only chance of the half.

Poor defending from Titus Bramble allowed Davies to break through and fire at goal but Stojkovic was able to palm the effort behind in fine style.

From the resulting clearance, a poor clearance from the Serbian keeper allowed Neal Bishop to shoot at goal from the edge of the area - only for Jordi Gomez to block on the line.

Scotland must have trudged off at the interval still thinking about Schmeichel's early save and the out-of-form striker was immediately denied by the young Dane straight after the break.

Wigan were made to pay dearly for missing several good chances

A cross from Scott Sinclair fell perfectly for Scotland to power a header at goal but Schmeichel hurled himself to his left and pulled off a brilliant save - evoking further memories of his father Peter at Manchester United.

Schmeichel was again called into action shortly after when a bobbling shot from Gomez needed to be tipped round the corner.

Wigan then looked as though they had taken the lead when Paul Scharner burst into the area and put the ball into the back of the net.

But County quickly pointed out the ball had gone through a hole in the side netting and the effort was immediately chalked off.

Wigan were suddenly well and truly on top and the impressive Schmeichel was again called on to deny Gomez.

But County held on under the pressure and finally surged forward to secure an amazing victory.

Firstly a corner from Davies swung perfectly for Hunt to power a header past Stojkovic.

And then, only three minutes later, Bramble failed to deal with another cross from the excellent Davies and a surprised Caldwell turned the ball into his own net, provoking a chorus of boos in a near-empty stadium.
