Midfielder Alberto Aquilani will miss Liverpool's Europa League quarter-final first leg clash with Benfica after suffering an ankle injury in training.
It is the same ankle the £17m signing injured when he joined last summer.
Dirk Kuyt is likely to move back to the right side with Steven Gerrard playing a more advanced role and Lucas in for the ineligible Maxi Rodriguez.
Defender Martin Kelly has joined Martin Skrtel and Fabio Aurelio on the injury list and will require knee surgery.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez said:
"Benfica have played against us in the Champions League, they have experience and good players.
"But we also have experience at this level. It will be an important game for both clubs.
"The stadium is fantastic and the atmosphere will be very good. It will be a European night."
