Muirhead's rink fell short against the Germans in the decider

Eve Muirhead's Scotland rink suffered disappointment in the final of the World Curling Championship after losing 8-6 to Germany in an extra end.

The Scots had claimed a surprise win over hosts Canada in the semi-final.

Muirhead then pushed her vastly experienced opponent, Andrea Schopp, all the way in the decider.

But with the scores level at 6-6 after 10 ends, Schopp's take-out with the final stone of the 10th gave her team a deuce for the win in Swift Current.

Schopp, 45, was also world champion back in 1988 and became the oldest skip to win the title in the tournament's history.

The highlight for the talented Muirhead was a triple take-out in the 10th for one which took the match into extras.

"You're definitely disappointed," she said. "They played a fantastic game out there. Andrea's on form and you can't doubt that.

"We gave them a good run. We've still got a silver medal but we went out there to win the game and it didn't happen."

Muirhead added: "I can't be too hard on myself. I've hopefully got a long way to go.

"There's so much I can take out of this, especially being at a Worlds in Canada - the atmosphere was phenomenal."
