Fraser eases to victory in Korea

Marcus Fraser had things largely his own way on the final day

Australia's Marcus Fraser was a comfortable winner of the Ballantine's Championship in Jeju, South Korea.

In a tournament reduced to three rounds following poor weather earlier in the week, Fraser produced a closing 69 to finish four shots clear.

Northern Ireland's Gareth Maybin shared second place after a 72 with another Australian, Brett Rumford (71).

Favourite Ernie Els, who was only two behind at the start of the final round, struggled to a 74 and was joint ninth.

Fraser's win was his first for seven years and was a reward for his consistent play.

The 31-year-old carded only two bogeys over the three rounds including one at the final hole, but it failed to take the gloss off his victory.

"It's unbelievable, I don't know how I did that today. It has blown me away.

"I have had so many chances to win in seven years and you just don't know if it is going to be your day, and it was. I just can't believe it," said Fraser.

"The second win is harder than the first one, it has just been so long. I have had so many chances to win over the last seven years and I haven't done it so to go out there and play how I did this week is a big lift.

"I led from day one and I don't think I would have enough in me for a fourth round, but I don't care. I have worked hard this week and over last few years to get back into a position where I should be winning golf tournaments and it is a big reward."

There was brief hope for Maybin on Sunday when he stood level with Fraser at the turn, but lost his way down the stretch.

After a bogey at 10, he hit his approach into a bunker at 12 and missed his par putt from inside six feet, and although he atoned with a 20-foot birdie at the next, he dropped another shot at 16 and lost outright second place at the last when his putt lipped out.

England's Oliver Fisher achieved his fifth consecutive top-10 finish when a solid 71 left him on seven under and in a share of fourth place with Seung-yul Noh, who fired a 68.
