Drogba fires in the crucial second as the United defence look for the offside flag

Chelsea leapfrogged Manchester United to lead the league table by two points after a battling win at Old Trafford.

The Blues scored the first when Florent Malouda crossed from the left for Joe Cole to deftly back-flick the ball in.

Ji-Sung Park and Nicolas Anelka had two penalty claims, but as United pressed, Didier Drogba banged in Saloman Kalou's pass from an offside position.

Substitute Federico Macheda bundled in to set up a frantic finale and Dimitar Berbatov saw his late header saved.
