England's Karen Stupples is one shot off leader Song-Hee Kim at the Kraft Nabisco Championships in California, the first women's major of the year.

Stupples fired her second 69 to lie second on six under with world number one Lorena Ochoa and Cristie Kerr.

"My ball striking has been good for the last two weeks, and I'm feeling very comfortable out there," said Stupples.

Korean Kim reached halfway with a 68, while overnight leader Suzann Pettersen shot a 73 to fall back to four under.

American Michelle Wie carded a second 71 to get to two under, within five shots of the lead, but defending champion Brittany Lincicome's 74 saw her fall to level par at the Mission Hills Country Club.

Wales's Becky Brewerton, who was just two strokes off the first-round pace, slid out of contention with a disappointing 79 for a six-over total.

Compatriot Becky Morgan, after a 70, and England's Laura Davies (71) are both on one over par, eight shots behind, with Scotland's Catriona Matthew a further two shots back.

England's Melissa Reid just made the cut on four over, but Scotland's Janice Moodie missed out.

Kim, 21, who has yet to win on the US Tour, said: "I had a great round and my swing was really smooth and comfortable.

"Also I had great putting today. Everything was good."
