Red Bull's Mark Webber edged out McLaren's Lewis Hamilton in the closing stages to set the pace in final practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Webber's one minute 33.542 seconds lap was 0.017secs faster than Hamilton.

Sebastian Vettel was third in the other Red Bull ahead of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and the Mercedes pair of Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg.

Schumacher was 0.098secs quicker than his compatriot, with Jenson Button back in seventh for McLaren.

It was a keenly-fought final practice session as most teams switched to the softer tyres earlier than usual in order to get some running in before the expected rain at the Sepang circuit.

Lewis Hamilton led for much of the hour long final practice run-out and he then sliced 0.470secs off his previous best after switching to the softer option tyres half way through the session .

It is difficult to read too much into practice results as it is hard to determine what fuel levels and strategies the teams are running, but Red Bull were widely expected to be quick in Malaysia.
