Top seed Serena Williams needed medical treatment before beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1 1-6 6-2 to reach the last 16 of the French Open in Paris.
The world number one felt unwell and had her pulse tested and temperature taken after slipping 5-0 down to the 18-year-old Russian in the second set.
The American continued to move gingerly and lost the set to the 29th seed.
However, Williams composed herself to win the deciding set and complete her victory in one hour and 48 minutes.
Williams dropped her serve for only the second time in the tournament in the first game but looked set for a straightforward victory after winning the next six games to secure the first set.
She lost her serve twice more in the second set before calling for a trainer to come out during a changeover.
Her movement and standard of play quickly improved and the 28-year-old powered through the final set to book her place in the fourth round.
