Former world number one Kim Clijsters marked her first Wimbledon appearance since 2006 with a 6-0 6-3 demolition of unseeded Italian Maria Elena Camerin.
Clijsters, playing her third Grand Slam event since coming out of retirement in 2009, took the first set in 24 minutes.
The eighth seed was made to work hard in the second but came through strongly to set up and second-round meeting with Croatian Karolina Sprem.
Venus Williams, Francesca Schiavone and Justine Henin also play on Monday.
They will all hope to follow Clijsters into round two after the Belgian produced a near-faultless performance to advance.

She arrived on Court Two to a rapturous ovation and immediately set about dismantling Camerin's flaky game.
Clijsters had never played on this court before - it was opened in 2009 - but she wasted little time getting familiar with it, winning in 65 minutes without facing a single break point.
The 24-year-old, who quit tennis in 2007 and gave birth to her first child Jada before returning to the tour and winning the 2009 US Open, started with a nervy service game but then settled into a beautiful rhythm.
