Dunga expects Brazil improvement

Brazil manager Dunga has demanded a significant improvement from his team, despite a 3-0 victory over Chile.

The five-time world champions booked a quarter-final slot against the Netherlands courtesy of goals from Juan, Luis Fabiano and Robinho.

"We have to improve in all sectors of our play," said Dunga.

"Chile played exceptionally well with a lot of possession and they passed very well but Brazil were able to maintain a balanced control."

Brazil have conceded only two goals in the tournament and once again produced a solid display in defence against a Chile side bursting with attacking flair and intent at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

Kaka, back in the team following a one-match suspension for a red card against the Ivory Coast, set up Brazil's second goal with a beautifully weighted pass for Luis Fabiano to round Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and sidefoot into an empty net.

But while the Real Madrid star showed glimpses of his creativity, he struggled to make a significant impact in the match, with Dunga replacing the 28-year-old in the 81st minute with Kleberson .

Dunga also has disciplinary concerns over Kaka, who collected his third yellow card of the tournament for a foul on Chile striker Humberto Suazo in the first half.

"It is a problem - I don't want Kaka to be out suspended," added Dunga. "It looks as though the technical players are punished and those who commit fouls aren't always.

"This started happening in the group phase and we are going to talk about this with Kaka. It is a concern for him but we don't want to get bogged down with the issue."

Meanwhile, Robinho capped an impressive display with a superbly crafted goal in the 59th minute, a finish fully appreciated by his demanding manager.

"We have already said we are trying to play the open football which everyone wants to see," commented Dunga, who has restricted media access to his players in South Africa.

"We know there is always this expectation that Brazil will be the winners but being the favourite does not allow you to win the World Cup.

"Some people doubted that we would perform but as we go along that confidence is growing and growing and we hope to make it to the final."

Dunga, 46, switches his attention to an enthralling quarter-final match with the Netherlands in Port Elizabeth on Friday.

Bert van Marwijk's team have won all four matches in the tournament so far and have been boosted by the return of inspirational winger Arjen Robben.

"Holland have a great World Cup tradition and they are very similar to the South American teams so we have to be extremely careful," stated Dunga.

"We have to be prepared to deal with extremely technical, excellent players. They are a solid team."
