It's bad news for a Briton
1543: Another Englishman out early is Simon Dyson and he opens with a bogey at the first to drop back to +6. A lot of early talk suggesting the cut may come around the +5/6 mark.

dougalthegolfer on 606: "You've got to watch out for Rory (McIlroy) today, he's hitting enough fairways (around 70%) so with some sharper iron play and early morning greens we could see a nice bounce back from his sloppy opening 75...I hope."

1535: A dozen players through the opening hole or two of their second rounds. England's Boyd steady away on two pars to stay +7. May need a couple of birdies to stay for the weekend though. The top 60 plus ties and anyone within 10 shots of the lead gets to play on Saturday and Sunday. At the end of round one, 141 players were in that category.

James in St Ives, Cambs via text: "I put a pound each way on Brendon De Jonge on Wednesday night, 500-1. Let me know how he is doing Pete." He'll be putting the finishing touches to his range work at the moment James - heads out to the 10th for a 1555 BST start. I'll keep you posted.

BBC Radio 5 Live
1523: While we're waiting for a few more players to get out on the course, can I point you in the direction of the 5 live golf podcast. Iain Carter and Andrew Cotter on day one on the Californian coast.

1515: Boyd starts with a par on the first to remain +7. Not long to wait for leader Casey who starts on the 10th at 1544 BST. Woods, Westwood and Ernie Els follow at 1606 BST, also going out on the back nine. The order has been reversed with Thursday's late starters going out this morning.

US down
1508: So, what of the battle for the world number one spot? Phil Mickelson appeared to struggle with the added pressure of trying to dislodge Tiger Woods. He started on the 10th and three successive bogeys on 16, 17 and 18, threatened to derail his tournament. He then missed a couple of tiddlers on the back nine as his putter deserted him. Woods, was also finding it difficult with the flat stick and missed several birdie putts of his own. He was made to pay with a couple of bogeys late on in his round. Neither are out of the reckoning, but I bet they both spend a little longer than usual on the practice greens today.

super_realist on 606: "Anyone within 7 or so shots is still well in with a chance. Of all the majors the US Open is perhaps the most difficult to predict from one round to another, especially when it's somewhere coastal"

1500: Another Englishman, Gary Boyd, is in the first group out and he will be teeing off on hole one anytime now. He had a +7 first round, so it's all about making the cut for him.

1458: Hello all and welcome to live coverage of round two from Pebble Beach. Hats off to Paul Casey, who is in a three-way tie for the lead at -2, while Ian Poulter at -1 and Luke Donald at level par also had excellent opening rounds. World number three Lee Westwood is the worst placed of the quartet but two birdies late on in his round lifted him to +3 and right back in contention.

It's good news for a Briton
1453: Four Englishmen are ranked among the top 10 in the world, so is it any real surprise to see three of them in the top 10 after round one of the US Open?
