1038: Anyway, we'll move on shortly - although we'll hear more about this story later - but there's also some quite bizarre footage of
Hanescu appearing to deliberately double-fault,
serving with his foot over the line in order to be foot-faulted.
1024: Four people were arrested last night (Arrested! At Wimbledon!) under the Public Order Act but the club say that is not necessarily related to the spitting incident. Hanescu is likely to find out his punishment today after the referees and Grand Slam supervisors meet. It's worth pointing out, I think, that Hanescu does not have a reputation for being particularly combustible.
1016: If you missed it, and you'd have been forgiven for skipping a third-round clash between Victor Hanescu and Daniel Brands, Hanescu had match points for a straight-sets win, but Brands fought back to take it into a decider. As the match wore on, Romanian Hanescu was reportedly subjected to taunts from some rowdy fans. He received a code violation for
spitting and swearing at them,
before finally retiring from the match at 3-0 down, officially because of a leg injury.
1009: If our intrepid reporter 'Dangerous' Dave Ornstein were here today, I'd be asking him to get on the phone to the local witch doctor. After hosting the 11 hour 5 minute marathon between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut, yesterday Court 18 (or Court Ishut if you prefer)
witnessed some remarkable, if troubling, scenes as darkness fell on day five.
"Is Court 18 on ley lines?" pondered
Piers Newbery
yesterday. "Mystical place."
