Marco Melandri is determined to ride in Sunday's Catalunya MotoGP despite a dislocated shoulder forcing him out of last Saturday's Dutch Grand Prix.

The Gresini Honda MotoGP rider missed Assen after tumbling in practice having also crashed out of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone the previous week.

"I'm going with the clear objective of putting the disappointments of Assen and Silverstone behind me," he said.

"I'll see how I feel after such a crash but my determination to race is huge."

The 2005 world championship runner-up has happy memories of this weekend's race venue in Barcelona, having secured his first premier class podium there in 2004.

"I hope I am fit and able to continue the recent good work we've been doing so that we can have more to be pleased with by the end of the weekend," added the Italian, who lies 11th in this season's championship standings.

His best finish so far this season was fifth in front of his home crowd at Mugello, the last race he completed.

"I have had a lot of treatment on the shoulder since Saturday and even though I still won't be at peak physical fitness, I am determined to get back out on track."
