Murphy handed Ireland captaincy

Geordan Murphy
Murphy has played all across the backline for Ireland in his 67 appearances

Geordan Murphy will captain Ireland against New Zealand Maori in the centenary fixture at Rotorua on Friday.

It will be the first time that the full-back, who made his 67th appearance as a substitute during Saturday's 66-28 loss to New Zealand, has led the side.

In a much-changed line-up, Rhys Ruddock will be on the blindside of the scrum, with Chris Henry at number eight.

Shane Horgan and Johne Murphy will play on the wings and Gavin Duffy and Paddy Wallace are to be paired in the centre.

The half-back combination will be Eoin Reddan at scrum-half and Jonathan Sexton at fly-half.

Replacements: S Cronin, J Hayes, D O'Callaghan, D Wallace, P Stringer, R O'Gara, R Kearney.
