England bid to seal their first one-day series in head-to-head competition against Australia since 1997 when match three begins at Old Trafford on Sunday.
After two four-wicket wins in day/night matches, there will be a morning start in Manchester as England seek to avenge a 6-1 loss to the Australians in 2009.
"That was an eye-opener for us," said skipper Andrew Strauss. "We had to find a way of being better.
"The key for us is not to pat ourselves on the back too much."
Andrew Flintoff's team famously battled their way to the Commonwealth Bank Series in 2007, beating Australia in the final, but that was part of a triangular series also featuring New Zealand.
The last time England won a series in direct competition was when Mike Atherton led them to a 3-0 whitewash over Steve Waugh's side in the old Texaco Trophy in May 1997.
The current England team is blessed with big-hitting batsmen such as opener and wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter and Kevin Pietersen, but it is Irish-born left-hander Eoin Morgan who has made the headlines so far.
The 23-year-old scored an unbeaten century to lead England home in the first match at the Rose Bowl, and added 52 from 64 balls at Cardiff on Thursday.

Stuart Broad, who was rested for the two-Test series against Bangladesh earlier in the summer, took 4-44 in that match to celebrate his 24th birthday in style.
"That was a really good win for us," he said. "The first few overs didn't go according to plan, but we realised the straighter you bowled on that wicket, the better.
"We are seeking constant improvement, and it is great to be back playing again and exciting to be involved. I feel in pretty good shape."
England have released Ajmal Shahzad from their squad to give him a game for Yorkshire in the Friends Provident t20 clash with Leicestershire on Sunday
Shahzad had been called into the squad to face Australia as cover for the injured Ryan Sidebottom but the Nottinghamshire seamer has since recovered from his hamstring strain.
Australia must wait to see whether fast bowler Ryan Harris recovers in time from a groin injury to make the frame.
The injury kept him out of Thursday's match, and since then Nathan Hauritz (foot) has been ruled out of the remainder of the series.
Shaun Tait, already in the UK for a stint with Glamorgan, has been called into Australia's squad.
The game clashes with England's last-16 World Cup match against Germany in Bloemfontein and Yorkshire all-rounder Tim Bresnan said he and his team-mates would be unable to avoid all thoughts of football, with reminders likely to be obvious from crowd reaction.
"We've got a job to do tomorrow, and we'll be 100% focused on the cricket," he promised.
"But it will be difficult to ignore the football result, if you have a few people listening to their radio in the crowd and they go up in the middle of an over."
