Diego Godin will not play in Uruguay's World Cup quarter-final against Ghana, coach Oscar Tabarez has confirmed.
Defender Godin suffered a thigh injury in Uruguay's 2-1 last-16 victory over South Korea.
"He is not fully recovered. He is not in the team because in my opinion he is not 100% fit," said Tabarez,
Mauricio Victorino is set to replace Godin for Friday's game, with Alvaro Fernandez preferred to Alvaro Pereira in midfield.
Uruguay have only conceded one goal in the tournament so far, with Godin, from Spanish club Villarreal, playing a key role.
And it is doubtful whether he will even be fit enough to make the substitutes' bench in Johannesburg.
Despite that, striker Diego Forlan told journalists the team was well-prepared and confident they could beat Ghana and reach the last four for the first time since 1970.

"We are following the instructions of Tabarez and we are confident we can reach the semi-finals to give joy to our people," he said.
Forlan scored twice against Cup hosts South Africa during the first round, but since then has been overshadowed by the performances of strike partner Luis Suarez.
"I have a good relationship with Luis and I'm happy to see him score. We have a collective objective, not personal. We just want to help the team," Forlan added.
