Ennis in the long jump
Ennis was just 8cm short of her personal best in the long jump

Great Britain's Jessica Ennis admitted she faced a tough battle in the last two events if she is to add European heptathlon gold to her world title.

Ennis's lead was reduced to 68 points after the long jump in Barcelona when Olympic champion Nataliya Dobrynska jumped 6.56m, to Ennis's 6.43m.

Ennis has a javelin best of 46.47m in the compared to Dobrynska's 48.60m, but the Brit has the edge in the 800m.

"I've got to give it everything in the javelin and 800m," said Ennis.

The lead group begin the javelin competition at 1700 BST, with the 800m at 1955.

606: DEBATE

The Sheffield 24-year-old took a 110-point lead into the second day and put in a consistent display with jumps of 6.28 metres, 6.41m and 6.43m - just 8cm short of her personal best.

But Ukrainian Nataliya Dobrynska jumped 6.56m in the second round - 7cm down on her own best mark - and Germany's Jennifer Oeser leapt 6.68m.

Ennis knew she would face a tougher battle than at last year's World Championships in Berlin, where she had a lead of 269 points at a similar point, eventually beating Oeser by 238.

"It's definitely going to be tight, Dobrynska's right there and Oeser had a great long jump," she continued.

"I think in Berlin I was quite a few points ahead so this is a different challenge.

"I don't expect every heptathlon to be like the one in Berlin, although I wish it could be!"
