Huh Jung-moo has confirmed he will leave his post as South Korea coach after the team were knocked out of the World Cup at the last 16 stage.
Huh, whose side were eliminated after a 2-1 defeat by Uruguay, had previously stated his intention to leave his role after the tournament in South Africa.
"I decided not to seek a second term. It is not a resignation, my contract finishes at the end of June," said Huh.
The Korea Football Association plan to appoint a new coach by 10 July.
Huh was appointed as coach of the national team for the second time in December 2007 after Pim Verbeek of the Netherlands left to lead Australia.
In the World Cup group stage South Korea beat Greece 2-0 before suffering a 4-1 defeat by Argentina. But a 2-2 draw with Nigeria was enough to qualify as group runners up.
But after guiding South Korea to the second round of the World Cup for the first time outside their own country, Huh is eager to take time out of the limelight
"I want time to recharge myself and spend some time with my family," said Huh.
"There are many good coaches in our football community. They should be given a chance."
South Korea's next match is a friendly against Iran in September and the team will travel to Qatar to contest the Asian Cup in January.
