Ikechukwu Uche has suffered a setback in his recovery from injury
|
Nigeria striker Ikechukwu Uche says it will take him at least three months to recover from his latest injury setback.
The Real Zaragoza star had thought he may be able to start the Spanish League season after damaging his knee again.
But following an operation he has been told the injury will take a lot longer to heal.
"It is a terrible setback, because based on the first diagnosis I thought everything would be fine," Uche told BBC Sport.
Uche has suffered a succession of bad luck with injuries.
He missed most of the 2009-10 season after suffering a ligament injury in the same knee that he has damaged now.
The news will prove further frustration for both Real Zaragoza and Nigeria, who had only just recalled him for a friendly against South Korea on 11 August in Seoul.
He missed out on a place in the Nigeria squad for the World Cup in South Africa, partly because of his previous injury.
Zaragoza open the Spanish season with a trip to Deportivo La Coruna on 29 August while Nigeria begin their 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar at home on 4 September in Abuja.
