Hooper injury setback for Celtic

Celtic striker Gary Hooper faces around six weeks on the sidelines with a calf muscle tear.

The 22-year-old missed Saturday's win at Inverness after suffering the injury during a friendly against Blackburn.

The former Scunthorpe striker will now miss Celtic's Europa League play-offs against FC Utrecht and their opening group game should they progress.

Hooper moved to Glasgow for £2.4m at the end of last month and has played one competitive game for Celtic.

He marked his Celtic Park debut with a goal in the 2-1 win over Braga in a Champions League qualifier but could not prevent his new club from losing out on aggregate to the Portuguese side.

He also found the net in a pre-season game with Arsenal in the Emirates Cup.

Meanwhile, defender Thomas Rogne is out for up to three weeks with a strain in his left thigh picked up while playing for Norway Under-21s last week.

Winger Niall McGinn is progressing well in his rehab from a fractured metatarsal and should have another two weeks to go while Mark Wilson, who suffered a right adductor injury, will remain in rehab for 10 days to two weeks.

Former Motherwell winger Paul Slane ruptured his cruciate ligament in pre-season and has had a successful reconstruction but will be out for about nine months.
