FabregasTheCaptain is staying haha Xavi on 606:
"Diaby starting after not playing one single game in pre-season? I think I'd rather have seen Frimpong in that midfield. I know its a big game, but Frimpong is a natural DM, and Diaby just isn't disciplined enough."
Anon via text: "Really looking forward to the difference that Chamakh will make. Cant see why the GOD Fabregas isn't starting, though."
1546: LIVERPOOL v ARSENAL:
Mandeep Sanghera reports: "So Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is on the bench as David Ngog starts up front with summer signing Joe Cole making his Premier League debut for the club along with fellow new Reds arrival Milan Jovanovic. Holding midfielder Javier Mascherano is in the side, despite saying he wants to leave the club, while Daniel Agger looks set to fill in at left-back with Fabio Aurelio on the bench. Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas misses out completely, while striker Robin van Persie is on the bench. Fellow forward Marouane Chamakh and defender Laurent Koscielny make their top-flight debuts for the Gunners and Manuel Almunia gets the nod in goal, with teenage midfield playmaker Jack Wilshere also starting."

west-ham4europe on 606:
"There is no denying Wilshere has got talent, but I don't think he is good enough yet to be in the starting 11 of a title-chasing team. He may prove me wrong, but he has got a lot to live up to if he is going to get more praise than Villa's Marc Albrighton did yesterday."
lobotics on Twitter:
" I feel the term 'six-pointer' has lost its meaning through overuse. Can we call this one a twelve-pointer?"
1540: LIVERPOOL v ARSENAL:
Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Gerrard, Jovanovic, Mascherano, Kuyt, Cole, Ngog. Subs: Cavalieri, Aurelio, Torres, Maxi, Babel, Lucas, Kelly.
Arsenal: Almunia, Clichy, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Diaby, Nasri, Eboue, Sagna, Wilshere, Arshavin, Chamakh. Subs: Fabianski, Rosicky, van Persie, Vela, Walcott, Song, Gibbs.
Referee: Martin Atkinson (W Yorkshire)

1537: One rumour on Cesc Fabregas, by the way, is that he has a chest infection which is why he is not in Arsenal's matchday squad. Other reports suggest it's purely a lack of fitness. Either way, at least the Spaniard
is still a Gunner
huh?
Bunteh on 606:
"Time to see the difference Hodgson has really made. The inquest starts here."
BeatnikSteve on Twitter:
"A new era for Liverpool requires a convincing start to the season. Torres to come off bench and score?"
1533: This is the third time Arsenal have opened their PL campaign on Merseyside, our friends at
Infostrada Sports
tell us, and all three matches have been played on August 15. In 2004, Arsenal won 4-1 at Everton in their opener and last season, the Gunners won 6-1 at Goodison Park. Now - is that an omen?
Denils_son on 606:
"Liverpool's team lacks height and with Arsenal usually poor at set-pieces, this could play into the Gunners' hands."
1527: LIVERPOOL v ARSENAL:
Mandeep Sanghera reports: "Liverpool against Arsenal is a game to whet any football appetite and is set up for an intriguing battle. Roy Hodgson was drafted in as the Reds manager after the exit of Rafael Benitez during the summer and he has already impressed in his short time in charge. He has lured Joe Cole to Anfield and persuaded key duo Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres to stay with the club. He will now be judged on results as Liverpool try to put last season's seventh-placed finish behind them. The Gunners have signed defender Laurent Koscielny and striker Marouane Chamakh this summer but the big news on the transfer front for them is that they managed to keep skipper Cesc Fabregas out of the clutches of Spanish giants Barcelona. Manager Arsene Wenger has also signed a new deal with the London club and he has displayed his confidence in his players by insisting the target for them this season is the Premier League title. When it comes to opening day Premier League fixtures, Liverpool have won two of their last seven, while Arsenal have eight wins from the last nine."

"These games decide everything: six-pointer."
Dan via text: "No room in the Liverpool team for Aquilani, Poulsen, Insua, Pacheco, Shelvey or Wilson? Dare I say there is a little strength in depth there?"
1521: LIVERPOOL v ARSENAL:
Breaking team news: Manuel Almunia and Jack Wilshere do indeed start for Arsenal, as do Marouane Chamakh and Liverpool nemesis Andrey Arshavin. No place in the starting XI, then, for Robin van Persie or Cesc Fabregas.

1518: If Andrey Arshavin is right below - and surely, if anyone would know it'd be him - it's worth bearing in mind Arsenal manager
Arsene Wenger's pre-match promise:
The guy who plays (in goal) on Sunday will be No 1. It is never for definite but it will be a consequence of what I have seen in pre-season." Does that mean a move for Shay Given or Mark Schwarzer is off the cards?
Andrei Arshavin on 606:
"Almunia is in goal for Arsenal, Wilshere also starts..."
DanAVFC on 606:
"Re 15:01 - No, it wouldn't be fun at all! He can't manage in the big games, the World Cup proved that! I'd rather see Jasper Carrott manage us than Maradona."

That's nine games unbeaten against Forest for Leeds, across three divisions. Fair.
1510: Leeds press up the pitch and Connolly attempts a delivery from the right - but it's easily cleared.
1508: We're in the 94th minute and it looks very much like this is how it will end.
1504: We will have six minutes of injury time at the City Ground.
1503: Leeds have a couple of snap-shots from the edge of the area, the first is blocked and then the second - from Neil Kilkenny - whips wide of the Forest upright. Leeds looking the likelier to score here.
1501: Away from this match for a minute - Argentina legend Diego Maradona has apparently thrown his hat into the ring to become the new Aston Villa manager, according to his 'European representative' Walter Soriano. Brilliant. How fun would the Premier League be then?!
1459: Further replays show Sanchez Watt stepped on Chris Gunter's foot first. How very unnecessary.
1458: Leeds boss Simon Grayson is apoplectic by the dugouts, and that means the linesman is copping a right royal earful. Should be an interesting last 10 minutes, this...
1455: Ah - replays show Chris Gunter deliberately stamped on Watt's foot. Pure petulance from the full-back, not sure what Watt did wrong.

|
|
|
1448: Camp, sporting a Terry Butcher-esque head-wrap - gets us back started.
1447: Ouch. Forest keeper Lee Camp will have to get treatment here after colliding with a Leeds player's knee - there's blood above his eye. A typically sympathetic response from Leeds fans ensues, Camp retorts by pointing to the blood and his Forest badge. Feisty.
1444: And that's an even better chance for Leeds, Sanchez Watt this time failing to hit the target with an unmarked header eight yards out, centre of goal. Let off for Forest. This is Leeds' best spell of the match.
1442: Oooh Luciano Beccio should do better. Neil Kilkenny's cross is a good one but Becchio fails to get his head on it six yards out and Wes Morgan is able to clear.
|
|
1436: First change of the day as Garath McCleary replaces Paul Anderson for Forest.
1434: Leeds work themselves into a decent area out on the left, but unlike for the visitors' equalising goal Bradley Johnson's delivery leaves a lot to be desired and the Forest defence watch the ball fly harmlessly behind.
1429: Great work from Lloyd Sam - he's been excellent today - as he breaks free on the left, but his whipped cross eludes everyone in the box and the chance goes awry.
|
|
1426: This half yet to really get going at the City Ground, with both sides feeling each other out like a couple of boxers sparring out the early rounds. Will Forest take up the baton in front of their own fans?
Pickles91 on 606:
"RE: DC_Reeves - Leeds have replace Beckford! Billy Paynter got injured in pre season though that's all."
1423: LIVERPOOL v ARSENAL:
Mandeep Sanghera reports: "As the game between Liverpool and Arsenal closes in, Reds fans will be eager to see if striker Fernando Torres is fit enough to start or whether boss Roy Hodgson takes the less risky approach of having him on the bench. Summer signing Joe Cole is set to start his first Premier League game for the club, while a question mark remains over whether the wantaway Javier Mascherano or new signing Christian Poulsen will start in the holding midfield role. Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is unlikely to start in midfield as he builds up his fitness and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger suggested he would be limited to a role coming off the bench if any at all, with striker Robin van Persie in a similar situation. But Andrey Arshavin, who has bagged five goals for Arsenal in his last three games against the Reds, should be in the Gunners line-up."

DC_Reeves on Twitter:
"You can tell Becchio misses someone up front with him, a poacher say. Leeds need to replace Jermaine Beckford."
1419: Nottingham Forest kick off the second half of this well-set Championship match.
Owyn via text: "I really have developed a soft spot for Leeds recently. I hope they do well this year."
redandblackT on 606:
"Has there ever been a real case of a footballer bursting his lungs while running?"
1412: So as we all enjoy our half-time teas (milk, one sugar - standard), why not have a look at a few things knocking about our website today? We've got the FA revealing Fabio Capello's successor as England manager
will be an Englishman,
Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow insisting there is
"no rush" to push through any takeover deal
at the club, and then of course there's the ever-popular
gossip column.
It beats the Sunday soaps doesn't it?
|
|
1359: As we approach half-time, you have to say 1-1 is just about fair on the balance of play - even taking Forest's terrific start into consideration. The hosts certainly finishing the half the stronger, though...
PanasonicVieira on 606:
"Sloppy defending that from Forest."
1355: Paul Anderson attempts to restore Forest's lead immediately, but his flashing drive 25 yards out zips over the bar.
|
|
1353: GOALFLASH Nottingham Forest 1-1 Leeds (Sam)
1351: Leeds again work it nicely in and around the midfield and earn themselves a free-kick 40 yards out... it comes to nothing.
1347: Forest break and for a moment they have four v three in attack, but Radoslaw Majewski shows his selfish side and blazes an effort from range well off target.
1344: This is a good spell for Leeds, forcing the hosts on to the back foot for the first time in the match, and I'd say the visitors have probably edged the last five minutes or so. Forest still leading 1-0, though.
big diao on 606:
"The atmosphere at the Forest v Leeds game is great, hope they get promotion this season!"
1340: Great chance for Leeds as Lloyd Sam sets Luciano Becchio free in the box, but the Argentine's first touch is far too heavy and Forest keeper Lee Camp is able to get out and smother.
1337: Leeds finally enjoy a spell of possession as Simon Grayson's side look to battle their way into this match, and Lloyd Sam is furious when a foul is given against him for a challenge on Kelvin Wilson in the box - he wanted it the other way. Replays suggest he might have had a shout actually.
1332: More encouraging for Leeds as they work it to Lloyd Sam in attack, but his shot is well blocked.
|
|
1329: Leeds are rattled here, and Forest and zipping the ball about with real intent.
|
|
1326: GOALFLASH Nottingham Forest 1-0 Leeds (Blackstock)
1324: Actually, Forest more than edging it. Possession stats show they have had the ball 87% of the time so far. Blimey. Leeds looking to weather the early storm.
1323: Lovely open start, this. Forest edging things at the moment.
1321: Penalty appeal for Forest as Fede Bessone goes in hard on Chris Gunter just inside the area - but replays show the Leeds man just got a touch on the ball. Good decision referee Tony Bates.
1318: Almost a blistering start for Forest, Chris Gunter's delivery causing all sorts of havoc in the Leeds box and Paul Anderson getting his chest on it, but Kasper Schmeichel does well with the point-blank reaction save.
1317: Leeds get us up and under way.
1315: The players are out at the City Ground and we're moments away.
1312: NOTTINGHAM FOREST v LEEDS
A couple of decades ago this would have been one of the stonking ties across Europe, but the fact Forest and Leeds meet today in the Championship doesn't mean this will be any less competitive or - hopefully - intriguing. Leeds may be new to this division after a three-year stay in League One, but their sights are set far higher, as are Forest's. Both are looking to bounce back after opening-day defeats, however, and Forest are desperate to shake off their 'slow-starters' tag having started last season with one win in eight games and the season before that with one win in 13. They'll hope their midweek Carling Cup exit can somehow spur them on to greater things in the league, while Leeds will hope to build on their midweek win over Lincoln. I'm tipping a classic.

Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies brings back Ryan Bertrand, Kelvin Wilson, Chris Gunter, Paul McKenna, Dexter Blackstock and Robert Earnshaw after his side's midweek Carling Cup exit to Bradford. Leeds beat Lincoln in the Carling Cup in midweek but boss Simon Grayson makes a change from that side, replacing defender Alex Bruce with Richard Naylor.

Nottingham Forest v Leeds
- the apperetif if you like - before what promises to be the absolute barn-stormer of a mains, the Premier League match between
Liverpool and Arsenal.
Quite simply, Sundays featuring football matches involving Nottingham Forest, Leeds, Liverpool and Arsenal do not get any better than this. Are you ready?
1248: So the Premier League kick-off delivered rather nicely didn't it? Some cracking football, plenty of goals, incident and excitement in heavy measure - and even a spell at the top of the table for relegation favourites Blackpool. What a couple of hours that was for the Seasiders. Frankly, I'm not sure today can possibly live up to it.
