Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
Tottenham goal: Dream start for Spurs and White Hart Lane goes mental. Young Boys don't learn their lesson when Michael Dawson is left unmarked from a corner, and moments later Gareth Bale's cross is guided home from six yards by the head of Peter Crouch. Advantage Spurs.

1950: GOALFLASH Tottenham 1-0 Young Boys (agg 3-3) (Crouch)

1949: It's teeming it down with rain at White Hart Lane - but no sign of either side making a slippery start so far. Tottenham, as promised, are trying to get in and amongst the visitors, but Young Boys are showing no little ambition themselves. Nice open start.

1948: FULHAM v PORT VALE:
Fulham's
£5m Belgian striker Moussa Dembele makes his first start for the club. Manager Mark Hughes has only made three changes from the team that drew with Manchester United, with Zoltan Gera and Matthew Briggs also coming into the team. League Two Port Vale, managed by former Fulham boss Micky Adams, are unchanged from the side that beat Southend 3-1 at the weekend.

1946: Accrington-Newcastle also up and running.

1945: It is absolutely kicking at White Hart Lane - and Young Boys, leading 3-2 from the first leg, get us up and under way.

Tom, Bristol via text: "Fulham line-up looks very strong for Carling Cup second round, maybe Mark Hughes is taking this seriously."

1943: FULHAM v PORT VALE:
Fulham:
Stockdale, Pantsil, Hangeland, Hughes, Briggs, Gera, Murphy, Etuhu, Duff, Zamora, Dembele. Subs: Zuberbuhler, Kelly, Baird, Riise, Eddie Johnson, Dempsey, Greening.
Port Vale: Tomlinson, Yates, Collins, McCombe, Owen, Griffith, Rigg, Roberts, Dodds, Justin Richards, Marc Richards. Subs: Martin, Robert Taylor, Fraser, Kris Taylor, Morsy, Malbon, Bell-Baggie.
Referee: Andy Penn (W Midlands)

1941: "If we can't win from the position we're in now, we don't deserve to be in the group stages do we?" says Harry Redknapp. "It's massive, the biggest game I've been involved in. It's all or nothing," says defender Michael Dawson. "Everyone wants to play in the Champions League. On Tuesday nights, you don't want to be at home watching Eastenders," says Jermain Defoe. "We know what is coming, but we know how to defend and will try to attack ourselves," says Young Boys coach Vladimir Petkovic. The players are ready and waiting in the tunnel of a rocking White Hart Lane - you guys ready for a spot of Handel's 'Zadok the Priest'? Course you are.

Amir Mir on 606: "I hope Young Boys do make a fight of it. Anything like the first leg then we're in for another treat."

The29 on Twitter: "RE 1904 That's just Harry's version of mind games... riddle the opposition into submission."

1936: TOTTENHAM v YOUNG BOYS:
Mandeep Sanghera reports:
"The nerves will be jangling for Tottenham as kick-off against Young Boys approaches with the prize of a place in the Champions League group stages within agonisingly close grasp. Spurs will be hoping to complete the comeback after being 3-0 down, but know full well from the first leg that they underestimate the Swiss side at their own peril. There may be plenty of tension in the air, but Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has told his side to "swarm" all over the visitors from the off. Will fortune favour the brave, though?"

1934: EVERTON v HUDDERSFIELD:
Everton
field a strong side despite making six changes with Jack Rodwell and Marouane Fellaini both included. Goalkeeper Jan Mucha and forward Magaye Gueye make their debuts. Huddersfield welcome back ex-Everton defender Gary Naysmith from suspension.

oozatden on 606: "Reasonably strong Toffees line up tonight - here's to an end to our League Cup hoodoo. Wemberrrrrley here we come! (Hopefully)"

1932: Good point that fourfootedchallenge (below) - and if you wanted any more reason, other than them leading from the first leg and them having beaten Fenebache away from home to progress in the last round, of course, to back Young Boys tonight, consider this: last night, only one out of the five ties was won by the team playing at home in the second leg. Dun dun dun.

fourfootedchallenge on 606: "The biggest lesson Spurs could learn before this was not the 3-2 humbling Young Boys gave them last week, but the humiliating Braga gave Seville yesterday. Let's hope they were paying attention."

1928: ACCRINGTON v NEWCASTLE:
Accrington
make one change for the visit of Newcastle, with Andrew Parkinson replacing Rory Boulding. Newcastle, fresh from a 6-0 thumping of Aston Villa, name an entirely different starting XI, with the likes of James Tavernier, Tamas Kadar, Shane Ferguson and Kazenga LuaLua playing.

sewey89 LUHG on 606: "Great night for Scott Sutter, if he plays like he did last week he might be playing at WHL more often! Surely worth a gamble for one of the lower Prem teams?"

lewisjamesbrown on Twitter: "Let's hope for two Spurs wins tonight - one at the Lane and one for the ill-treated Martin Jol leading Ajax in Amsterdam."

1926: EVERTON v HUDDERSFIELD:
Everton:
Mucha, Coleman, Heitinga, Distin, Baines, Pienaar, Rodwell, Fellaini, Osman, Gueye, Beckford. Subs: Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Bilyaletdinov, Saha, Arteta, Cahill.
Huddersfield: Smithies, Peltier, McCombe, Peter Clarke, Naysmith, Croft, Gudjonsson, Johnson, Roberts, Arfield, Robinson. Subs: Bennett, Kay, Garner, Rhodes, Novak, Goodwin, Carey.
Referee: Neil Swarbrick (Lancashire)

Anon via text: "Re: The Saint - Everton are under pressure from what? Everybody seems to think we will be lucky to do aswell as last year. Baring a terrible injury crisis like last year, we'll be right up there with the rest of them. But pressure? There ain't none."

CFC-Man 606: "Come on Spurs. From a Chelsea fan, be nice to see another team from London in the later rounds of the competition!"

1922: TOTTENHAM v YOUNG BOYS:
Mandeep Sanghera reports: "Tottenham
boss Harry Redknapp opts for Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch in attack, while the importance of the game to Spurs is signified by Ledley King returning to the starting line-up and partnering Michael Dawson in central defence. Wilson Palacios gets the nod ahead of Jermaine Jenas and takes his place next to Tom Huddlestone in central midfield. Young Boys boss Vladimir Petkovic is still missing the injured Emiliano Dudar and so gives the same side that beat Spurs 3-2 in the first leg the chance to go out and try to complete the job."

lubine_sport on Twitter: "Our household can only be compared to cats on hot tin roofs. We're so nervous it's scary. Being a typical Spurs fan - I'm not hopeful!"

redandblackT on 606: "First footballing cliche of the night... Spurs need an early goal."

1918: Champions League Stevo: "Spurs aside, four other places in Uefa's nice shiny glass bowls are up for grabs this evening, with Ajax-Dynamo Kiev (1-1), Auxerre-Zenit (0-1), FC Copenhagen-Rosenborg (1-2) and MSK Zilina-Sparta Prague (2-0) all playing to a finish. Don't think for a second I won't be keeping you abreast of that action. Oh, and remember, the group stage draw takes place at 1700 BST-ish on Thursday. Bye for now."

1916: ACCRINGTON v NEWCASTLE:
Accrington Stanley:
Dunbavin, Bateson, Hessey, Edwards, Winnard, Procter, Barnett, Ryan, Putterill, McConville, Parkinson. Subs: Cisak, Richardson, Joyce, Turner, Murphy, Boulding, Owens.
Newcastle: Krul, Ryan Taylor, Kadar, Tavernier, Ferguson, Ranger, Donaldson, Vuckic, LuaLua, Ameobi, Lovenkrands. Subs: Soderberg, Nolan, Williamson, Barton, Routledge, Perch, Smith.
Referee: Rob Shoebridge (Derbyshire)

FHTHCrelly on Twitter: "I think it's fair to say, most British fans are behind Spurs to win tonight."
I'm not sure mate - have a quick look on 606 !

The Saint via text: "Come on the Town. Everton are under pressure. I predict 2-0 win to the Terriers. Great signing today too in Alan Lee. He's the big lad we need."

1912: TOTTENHAM v YOUNG BOYS:
Tottenham:
Gomes, Bale, Huddlestone, Lennon, Palacios, Crouch, Defoe, Dawson, Corluka, King, Assou-Ekotto. Subs: Cudicini, Kaboul, Jenas, Pavlyuchenko, Keane, Giovani, Kranjcar.
Young Boys: Wolfli, Sutter, Costanzo, Tape Doubai, Bienvenu, Spycher, Lulic, Affolter, Degen, Hochstrasser, Jemal. Subs: Burki, Marco Schneuwly, De Pierro, Christian Schneuwly, Raimondi, Regazzoni, Mayuka.
Referee: Laurent Duhamel (France)

1909: Well last night's Carling Cup action might not have been red hot with shocks - no disservice to the likes of MK Dons, Peterborough, Notts County et al - but this competition rarely fails to throw up more than the odd Premier League casualty, so could Everton, Fulham or Newcastle follow Blackpool out of the competition tonight? Many call this the trophy no-one wants to win in these early rounds - I'm sure David Moyes, Mark Hughes and Chris Hughton would disagree, though. Erm... wouldn't they?

Russell via text: "Toon fan here, still on cloud nine after Sundays demolition of Villa. If we don't win the league, I'll be pleased with the League Cup."

joelross17 on 606: "We can't lose tonight, not after what we did last season. It just can't happen."

1904: So, deemed by most as a dream draw when Tottenham were pulled out of the hat against Swiss minnows Young Boys back on 6 August, it proved little more than a nightmare for half an hour at the Stade de Suisse just over a week ago. Goals from Senad Lulic, Henri Bienvenu and Xavier Hochstrasser had the Londoners on the precipice and staring into the Champions League abyss - but the fact Spurs fought back through Sebastien Bassong and Roman Pavlyuchenko goals has, somehow, convinced many pundits they are favourites tonight. Not Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, though. "They are very dangerous opposition, they are leading and they are favourites," he said. Mind you, he did add: "Saying that, I'll think we'll win. If we play as we can we'll win the game, simple as that." Erm, simple. Really?

Jp, St Albans via text: "I can't beloved the amount of Spurs fans that think this is a walk over. Mark my words this will be Everton-Villarreal all over again."

Meerschaum_221B on 606: "Young Boys had great home support in the first leg which inspired a great performance.I think they'll lack that edge entering the White Hart Lane cauldron."

matthew on 606: "Get in there Young Boys. I predict a 2-0 victory for the Boys. Spurs should be easy to handle having disposed of Fenerbahce 1-0 away in Turkey in the last round."

1858: BREAKING TEAM NEWS:
Tottenham
boss Harry Redknapp starts with Jermain Defoe in attack despite the striker's impending groin operation, while Young Boys field the exact same starting XI that started last week.

HenryWhitfield on Twitter: "Let's hope the 'madness' of yesterday's Carling Cup and European ties comes out today! Spurs need a BIG result!"

ExFleet on 606: "Although I'm not a Spurs fan, I am old enough to know of Bill Nicholson's double-winning side of 1961. Sports headlines always spoke of 'White Hot Lane' and they weren't wrong."

1855: So, at the end of the day, you lot have absolutely no excuse not to get involved tonight in a big way. Be your passion Champions League, Carling Cup, or merely quoting random television 'celebrities' I want to hear from you. The usual avenues are open, so get chatting on 606, text me on 81111 (UK) or +44 7786200666 (worldwide), or get in touch via Twitter @sampatricklyon. Let's be having you.

1852: Oh yes - and as if I wasn't pumped enough about tonight already, there's only a whole bunch of other matches too. As well as four other Champions League play-off second-leg ties - upon which you can rely on Champions League Stevo for all the latest - we've got three beauties in the Carling Cup second round. Newcastle travel to Accrington Stanley, Everton host Huddersfield and Fulham welcome Port Vale. Basically, it's all set up to be an absolute cracker.

1849: Did I actually just quote Masterchef presenter Greg Wallace on a football commentary? Man I'm maverick.

1848: Good evening and welcome to what is potentially one of the biggest nights in Tottenham's recent history. Overcome Swiss outfit Young Boys tonight and they will enter the Champions League group stages for the first time in the club's history, lining up potential meetings with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan or Bayern Munich - oh yes, and bringing a shedload of cash into the club as well. Fail, and it will be relegation to the Europa League, the undoing of all last season's hard work and a hefty kick in the guts of the club's immediate ambitions both on and off the field. As Greg Wallace might say... Football doesn't get tougher than this.

1845: Tonight, for the first time in 48 years, Europe's premier cup competition finally returns to White Hart Lane. Since Bill Nicholson's side were knocked out of the semi-finals of the 1962 European Cup by a Eusebio-inspired and eventual winners Benfica, Tottenham have enjoyed some special nights as part of their European adventures but never in the one now referred to as the Champions League. That could all be about to change. It won't be easy - when is it with Tottenham? - but Spurs want their "Glory Glory" nights back. Excited?
