Young Boys goal: Dear Lord above, what a start. Spurs just have not got going and they fall behind. Henri Bienvenu smashes in a shot from 25 yards that strikes team-mate Ammar Jemal on the back and it falls nicely for Senad Lulic to coolly side-foot past Heurelho Gomes from eight yards.

2 mins: If Spurs didn't know they were in a game before, they certainly do now. David Degen works the ball across the area from the Young Boys left and from the edge of the box, Senad Lulic drills a shot against Heurelho Gomes' right-hand post with the keeper nowhere near it. Big let-off.

1946: In Switzerland's capital city of Bern, Young Boys and Tottenham are under way in the first leg of their Champions League play-off. Here we go.

1937: If you don't know much about Vladimir Petkovic's Young Boys, you should probably read my colleague Phil Dawkes' piece on Scott Sutter, the Enfield-born left-back who will be playing for the Swiss tonight. He left England in 2002 for Grasshoppers Zurich before moving to Bern last year. "Every player has their own path," said the 24-year-old. "I consider myself quite a technically good player and the training I received here has helped me."

Elsewhere, Dynamo Kiev play Ajax, Rosenborg meet FC Copenhagen and Sparta Prague entertain MSK Zilina.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp: "We're looking forward to it, definitely. We've got one or two knocks and made a few changes. The artificial pitch is different to what we're used to, but if we pass the ball properly we've got a good chance here tonight."

According to the the Hypercube/Infostrada Sports Euro Club Index, Spurs have an 83% chance of progressing to the Champions League group stage and a 52% chance of winning tonight's game, while Young Boys have a 25% of triumphing this evening.

Courtesy of Mandeep Sanghera: "Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp makes four changes to the side which drew 0-0 with Manchester City on Saturday as striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, winger Giovani dos Santos, centre-back Sebastien Bassong and midfielder Wilson Palacios come in for Peter Crouch, Aaron Lennon, Ledley King and Tom Huddlestone. Young Boys beat Fenerbahce 1-0 on 4 August for an aggregate 3-2 win to get this far and Xavier Hochstrasser replacing Emiliano Dudar is the only change from that side."

1916: Let me introduce you to Mandeep Sanghera, who will be writing our match report tonight: "The last and only time Tottenham played in European football's top competition was back in the 1961/1962 season. On that occasion, they reached the semi-finals of the European Cup and lost out 4-3 on aggregate to Benfica. Now, only a play-off against Swiss side Young Boys to get into the group stages of the Champions League stands between them and a long-awaited place among Europe's elite. Spurs are favourites, but boss Harry Redknapp will be hoping his team's nerves will not be jangling in such a significant game on the artificial surface at Stade de Suisse. Young Boys were runners-up in the Swiss league last season and, despite a stuttering start to their domestic campaign this time, they did cause an upset when they beat Fenerbahce 3-2 on aggregate to get this far."

1906: It's too early to be the defining moment of Tottenham's season, but what happens in Switzerland this evening could quite easily set the tone for the rest of their campaign. Lose over two legs to Young Boys and they are out of Europe completely - win, and the riches and prestige of the Champions League are theirs. What I'm trying to say is this: tonight is important.
