Jimenez carded a 10-under-par 61 in his second round in Switzerland

Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez maintained a three-shot lead over Italian Ryder Cup team-mate Edoardo Molinari heading into the European Masters final round.

Jimenez, 46, carded a three-under-par 68, the same as Molinari, to take him to 17 under overall in Switzerland.

The Spaniard could have shot a 67 but incurred a penalty stroke on the 10th for picking up his ball, with placing only allowed on the sixth hole.

Italian Matteo Manassero, 17, and England's Steve Webster are 13 under.

Jimenez, making his 22nd successive appearance at Crans-sur-Sierre but still seeking his first victory on the course, fired himself to the top of the leaderboard with a stunning career-best 10-under-par 61, featuring two eagles and six birdies, on Friday.

He could not replicate such a feat on Saturday, carding six birdies and three bogeys - including his moment of absent-mindedness at the 10th.

"I lost a bit of concentration," admitted Jimenez of his error. "I marked the ball thinking it was a preferred lie, but quickly realized my mistake and called the penalty.

"But I was pleased with the round. Sometimes when you have shot 61 the previous day it is difficult to follow it up because when you don't make birdies all the time it seems like nothing is happening.

"So I was pleased to play the first nine in four under and the tournament is now in my hands, but I do know how good Edoardo is at coming from behind on the final day."

Johnnie Walker Championship winner Molinari's round was more consistent, featuring four birdies and a single dropped shot at the 13th - his first in 54 holes stretching back to the 14th hole of his final round at Gleneagles.

Manassero's 69 kept alive his hopes of a top-five finish, which would ensure he becomes the youngest player to secure his playing card on the European Tour.

Webster moved alongside Manassero with a seven-under 64 which included a spectacular eagle at the par-five 13th, which saw his second shot from a fairway bunker strike the flag, leaving him with a six-foot putt for his three.

However, the lowest score of the day belonged to Ireland's Peter Lawrie, who carded a career-best 63 to climb 54 places to a share of seventh on nine under.
