A late Chris Burton try was enough to send the Newport Gwent Dragons to their fourth defeat of the season against Treviso.

Fabio Semenzato and Robert Sidoli were each sin-binned in a scrappy first half but Treviso made the most of their extra man with a Robert Barbieri try.

Scott Morgan and Phil Price helped the Dragons claw their way back to 13-13.

But Chris Burton claimed Treviso's third win of the season going over with four minutes remaining.

The bonus-point defeat leaves the Dragons next to bottom of the Magners League after five games and still searching for their first win on the road.

Their preparations were not helped when captain Tom Willis, who was named in the original starting line-up, pulled out, so Lloyd Burns stepped up from the bench.

Paul Turner's side started nervously and could have been behind after just two minutes had Tobias Botes kicked a penalty after just two minutes.

Despite the Italians showing early promise, they had scrum-half Semenzato sin-binned for offside and within a minute the Dragons were ahead through Matthew Jones' kick.

That lead was short-lived though as fly-half Burton drew Treviso level with a drop goal.

And things were to get better for the home side when Sidoli received a yellow card in the 26th-minute which they took full advantage of.

First, Botes kicked his second penalty attempt and then Barbieri crashed over for a converted try to open up a 13-3 lead.

Treviso looked comfortable but let the Dragons back in two minutes before the break when lock Morgan scrambled over after Aled Brew fell just short.

The second half continued to be a scrappy, in-disciplined affair with the third yellow card coming out, this time to Treviso's Barbieri, while both sides missed further kicks.

But with 15 minutes to go, the Dragons were level when loosehead prop Price went over from a maul, but Jones missed his second conversion.

Both sides went for the win and it was Burton who claimed it for Treviso with a converted try four minutes from time after the hosts had gone close in the corner.

The Dragons rallied but it was too late to leave the Stadio Comunale di Monigo with anything more than a losing bonus point.
