Crane produced a strong finish to secure the title

American Ben Crane birdied the final hole to beat England's Brian Davis by a stroke at the inaugural Asia Pacific Classic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Davis finished birdie-eagle-birdie in a final-round 66 but Crane, having eagled the 15th, made an eight-foot putt on the last to finish on 18 under.

Crane, who carded a 69, earned $1m (£620,000) in the first USPGA Tour-sanctioned event in south east Asia.

England's Luke Donald and Scotland's Martin Laird were third on 16 under.

The in-form Laird, who lost in a play-off last weekend, had taken the lead after overnight leader Crane made three straight bogeys.

But Crane drove the green on the 15th and holed an eight-foot eagle putt to regain the lead.

Davis pulled even with his closing birdie, but the 34-year-old Crane avoided a play-off with his winning birdie.

Robert Allenby (64), Ernie Els (66), Rickie Fowler (67), DJ Trahan (68), Ryan Moore (69) and Mardan Mamat (69) all tied for fifth at 14 under.
