LATEST SCORE - EUROPE 4-6 USA

By Mark Ashenden

European Up
1247: Look away American golf fans. Here's Monty's battle cry with 45 minutes to go before his players walk out on to the course: "We're buoyant. We're up. The music is playing. Everything is very, very positive - that's what I expected and that's what I got. We're raring to go. Yesterday they realised the battle they were in. Underestimation is a terrible thing. My players expected to be leading and weren't. Something had to change. That's all credit to the American team - they holed their putts. I didn't use the word 'complacent' around the players, but they knew. I can't tall you what was said - it was quite rude. I told them that passion was required, the spark wasn't there, we needed it ignited. We must continue this ignition."

1244: First things first. Some basic admin like the scores. The US lead Europe 6-4 and that's another fact. Europe are up in the two foursomes and the four fourballs with Lee Westwood/Luke Donald (four up) and Graeme McDowell/Rory McIlory (three up) both in a great position. All six matches will be finished this afternoon (weather permitting) with the dozen singles matches moved to Magic Monday (kick-off 0905). So what do you make of all that?

1240: We've all been caged up like wounded panthers and we're all ready to roar right? The players have been holed up in their hotels, Monty's been no doubt chewing his fists off, Corey Pavin's been doing what Corey Pavin does and you lovely people have been making paper planes and hiding the TV remote from bored five-year-olds if your tweets are anything to go by. So are you ready for this beautiful bamboozling bumpy ride called the Ryder Cup? Be prepared for some tears.

1234: Afternoon. In 56 minutes, the Ryder Cup will get going again. And that my friends is a fact.
