Baggies in Ibanez red card appeal

Defender Ibanez upends DJ Campbell inside the box

West Brom will appeal against the red card shown to defender Pablo Ibanez in Monday night's 2-1 defeat at Blackpool.

The Spaniard was dismissed by referee Michael Oliver for a professional foul on DJ Campbell, leading to a penalty from which Charlie Adam made it 1-0.

But the Baggies claim they had covering defenders who would have denied Campbell a goalscoring opportunity.

A statement read: "The club believe, having viewed various TV angles, Ibanez was wrongfully dismissed."

West Brom have until 1300 GMT on Wednesday to lodge their appeal.

If the dismissal is upheld, Ibanez will miss the visit of Manchester City on Sunday.

The Baggies were reduced to nine men before the half-hour mark when Gonzalo Jara was sent off for a two-footed lunge on Luke Varney.

And Varney made it 2-0 in the second half before Youssouf Mulumbu curled in a consolation goal for the visitors.
