JASON ROBINSON 7 matches (5 tries) Age 33 Caps 46 (27 tries) Captain in the early part of Andy Robinson's regime before retiring from Test rugby in September 2005 to spend more time with his family. But after a season in which he led Sale to the Premiership title, made a try-scoring return to the England team this year. Already retired from club rugby, will bow out completely after the 2007 World Cup.
MIKE TINDALL 6 matches (1 try) Age 28 Caps 54 (11 tries) Met Zara Phillips during England's 2003 campaign, and now the partner of the Princess Royal's daughter. But on the field a series of long-term injuries have restricted him to just 12 caps since 2003. Returned in this year's Six Nations but a broken leg in April playing for Gloucester, who he joined from Bath in 2005, has cost him a place in the 2007 squad.
WILL GREENWOOD 6 games (5 tries) Age 34 Caps 55 (31 tries) Played in eight more Tests after 2003, winning his final cap in the autumn of 2004. Missed the 2005 Six Nations through injury, but made the Lions tour to New Zealand, finally playing a Test on his third tour, before retiring from rugby in May 2006. Now a newspaper columnist and respected analyst with Sky Sports, and working with ITV for the World Cup.
BEN COHEN 6 matches (2 tries) Age 28 Caps 53 (30 tries) In and out of the England side since 2003, admitting he lost his appetite for the game when he missed out on 2005 Six Nations and a Lions tour spot. Returned for autumn Tests and featured in 2006, but not this year. Withdrew from World Cup contention to be with his pregnant wife, who is expecting twins. Also in dispute with his club Northampton.
JONNY WILKINSON 6 matches (113 points) Age 28 Caps 60 (915 points inc. 6 tries) A devastating series of injury problems - neck, shoulder, knees, kidney, you name it - meant the 2003 hero did not play for England again for over three years, missing the next 30 Tests. But after just 45 minutes of club rugby, he returned with a Calcutta Cup record 27 points against Scotland in January. Remains key to how the 2007 squad fare in France.
MATT DAWSON 5 matches (1 try) Age 34 Caps 77 (101 points) Won 20 more caps after 2003, but dropped in 2004 after missing training to film A Question of Sport. Returned in 2005 and went on his third Lions tour, before retiring in May 2006. High-profile figure having won Celebrity Masterchef, come second in Strictly Come Dancing and a TV poker show. Will be at the World Cup as a BBC Five Live summariser and pundit.
