Organisers cancelled the first and fourth stages of this year's Wales Rally GB because of ice on the roads.

Both stages would have been on the same route in the Hafren forest in Powys.

A safety delegate drove the section on Friday and decided it was unsafe, while the ice did not thaw in time to allow the fourth stage to start at 1316 GMT.

The Sweet Lamb (second) and Myherin (third) stages were completed as planned - with France's Sebastien Ogier the leading driver after stage three.

The rally began with a ceremonial stage in Cardiff on Thursday evening.

It is the final event of the 2008 World Rally Championship, which was clinched by another Frenchman - Sebastien Loeb - after the penultimate event in Japan last month.
