Everton dealt Saha injury setback

Everton's striker injury crisis was further compounded when Louis Saha was ruled out for further five weeks because of a hamstring injury.

The Frenchman picked up the injury during the 1-0 win over Tottenham on 30 November, with the club hoping to have him back for the Christmas fixtures.

But the results of a secondary scan revealed the injury was more serious than first diagnosed.

"He will be out for another four to five weeks," said boss David Moyes.

Everton are already without Yakubu, James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe, with Moyes forced to play midfielder Tim Cahill as a make-shift lone striker in the 3-0 win over Sunderland last Sunday.

Nigeria international Yakubu had surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon and will be out for the rest of the season, while Vaughan is scheduled to return before the end of the season after a knee operation last month.

Moyes could seek reinforcements in the January transfer window, but financial constraints could force the club to sell before they can bolster their depleted striking ranks.
