White fitness boost for Scotland

White returned for Scotland in the Autumn internationals

Scotland flanker Jason White should be fit for the Six Nations after having surgery on a dislocated finger.

The 30-year-old suffered the injury in Sale's 31-3 Guinness Premiership victory over Wasps on Boxing Day.

Scotland play Wales on 8 February and a Scottish Rugby Union spokesman said: "Jason expects to back in full training at the end of the month.

"Let's just hope he is able to adhere to the schedule that is before him at the minute."

White's injury is the latest setback for the blind-side flanker, who missed the entire 2007 Six Nations and most of last year's competition.

The former Glasgow forward also sat out Scotland's summer tour to Argentina after opting to undergo surgery on a long-standing knee problem.

He had been captain of the national team going into last year's Six Nations, but that has been passed to scrum-half Mike Blair.
