Saint-Andre set for French return

Saint-Andre has also coached Gloucester and French club Bourgoin

Sale have announced director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre will join French club Toulon at the end of season.

The former France international will be replaced by current head coach Kingsley Jones, who will immediately assume Saint-Andre's responsibilities.

Jones had been primed to take over at the end of the season, but Sale are keen to promote him while Saint-Andre remains a part of the coaching staff.

The 41-year-old joined the Sharks in May 2004 from Bourgoin.

Former Gloucester coach Saint-Andre, who led Sale to their only Premiership title in 2006, announced last month he would be leaving Edgeley Park at the end of season.

He had been linked with several clubs in France, but opted for the challenge of struggling Toulon, where he will become the director of sport.

The big-spending club, currently second from bottom in France's Top 14 league, are currently coached by former All Blacks captain Tana Umaga, who is expected to make way for Saint-Andre.

"Toulon fans will be excited to learn that one of the all-time greats of French rugby will be taking over next season," said Sharks owner Brian Kennedy.

"All Sale Sharks fans will remain indebted to Philippe for the success he has achieved during his time at the club."

Former Wales captain Jones said he was delighted that Saint-Andre will still be involved in the coaching set-up for the current campaign.

"I know that Philippe wants to win the Guinness Premiership as much as anybody at the club and his experience and rugby knowledge will be invaluable to us as we attempt to win our second Guinness Premiership," he said.
