Ding and Hendry look in great form as they eye a place in the quarters
|
Stephen Hendry and Ding Junhui were level at 4-4 after a lively opening session in the second round of the World Snooker Championship.
China's world number 11 stunned the seven-time champion with breaks of 59 and 112 to take the first two frames.
His Scottish opponent hit back with 91 and 76 to grab a narrow lead with one frame remaining.
But Ding, who beat compatriot Liang Wenbo in the first round, evened things up with a nerveless 58 in the last.
Ding looked in fantastic form in the opening stages to stroll into a 3-1 lead with breaks of 59, 112 and 88.
But Hendry, world champion in 1990, 1992-6 and 1999, showed some of his old potting form, recovering with three successive frames to edge ahead.
However, they will resume their battle on Friday all square after Ding secured the eighth with some controlled potting under pressure with knocks of 58 and 32.
