Elena Dementieva
Dementieva has now fallen at the third round in three of the last four years

Fourth seed Elena Dementieva saw her French Open campaign come to an end with a shock 6-3 4-6 6-1 defeat by Samantha Stosur in round three.

The reigning Olympic champion was broken twice to lose the opening set but fought back to edge the second.

Dementieva's problems on serve helped Stosur go 4-0 up in the decider and the 30th seed broke at 5-1 for the match.

Seventh seed Svetlana Kuznetsova had no such problems, reaching round four with a 6-1 6-3 victory over Melinda Czink.

Kuznetsova enjoyed a near-faultless first set, which she won in 22 minutes by taking two out of two break points and facing none on her own serve.

The Russian broke her Hungarian opponent in games three and nine of the second set to wrap up the win.

She faces Agnieszka Radwanska in the last 16 after the 12th seed from Poland saw off Kateryna Bondarenko 6-2 6-4.

Stosur, a form doubles champion at Roland Garros, is into the fourth round for the first time and will face Tathiana Garbin or Virginie Razzano, neither of whom are seeded.

Also through to the fourth round is ninth seed Victoria Azarenka, who finished off her third round match against Carla Suarez Navarro, which started on Friday evening, with a 5-7 7-5 6-2 win.

Second seed Serena Williams, the 2002 champion, fifth seed Jelena Jankovic and an in-form Caroline Wozniacki, the number 10 seed, are all in action later on Saturday.
