Steve Stricker carded a second consecutive round of 63 to top the Crowne Plaza Invitational leaderboard in Texas and break the 36-hole record.

Stricker's 14-under 126 total broke the previous course mark by two strokes.

Tim Clark, Vijah Singh and Sean O'Hair were lined up behind Stricker after the trio all sot second rounds of 64.

Englishmen Paul Casey (67) and Luke Donald (65) were both seven off Stricker, while Ian Poulter moved out to nine off the lead after carding 69.

Greg Owen made the cut after a round of 69 which left him 11 strokes off the lead, while a 69 from Justin Rose left him one shot behind Owen overall and still in the tournament.

Four-time PGA Tour winner Stricker said he is taking nothing for granted, despite his blistering start to the tournament.

"I'd rather have the trophy," he said.

"We're only halfway through. I'd like to keep making putts. That solves a lot of problems."

After setting the early pace in bright sunshine at Colonial Country Club, Stricker modestly put his low scores down to the calm weather conditions.

"The weather all week since we've been here has been unbelievable," Stricker said.

"Wind is what this course needs to get difficult, but we haven't seen it yet... I kind of like what's going on right now."
