Kyle recalled to Scotland squad

Kilmarnock striker Kevin Kyle
Kyle missed the defeat by Japan

Striker Kevin Kyle has been recalled to the Scotland squad - but injured Celtic pair Scott Brown and Shaun Maloney will miss the 14 November friendly in Wales.

Kilmarnock's Kyle had been omitted for the defeat by Japan but returns along with fit-again fellow forwards James McFadden and Ross McCormack.

Celtic full-back Danny Fox could be given his debut after pulling out of last month's game through injury.

But there is no place for Hearts winger Andrew Driver.

Oldham-born Driver has played for England at Under-21 level but now qualifies for Scotland because of a new rule allowing players to be picked who have had five or more years schooling in that country.

The midfielder, who had said he would be pleased to represent Scotland before receiving his England call-up, will face a choice of nations should Scotland choose to call him up for a full international squad.

Watford midfielder Don Cowie, Hearts left-back Lee Wallace and West Brom midfielder Graham Dorrans retain their places in George Burley's squad after making their debuts in the 2-0 defeat by Japan.

Scotland captain Darren Fletcher is named in the squad despite the Manchester United midfielder revealing on Wednesday that he is struggling with an ankle injury that is likely to require surgery.

It had been expected that Brown and Maloney would not be included in the squad because of their ongoing injury problems.

Neither player travelled with their club to Hamburg for Thursday's make-or-break Europa League group game, with Brown still troubled by an ankle problem and Maloney having suffered a heel injury.

Kyle is back in the squad after being unable to accept a late call-up for the Japan game due to a knee problem.
