Beckham wants to win the Serie A title during his spell with Milan

David Beckham insists he would be happy to play in defence for AC Milan after starting a five-month loan spell from LA Galaxy with the Italian giants.

The 34-year-old spent part of last season on loan at the San Siro in a bid to maximise his chances of making the England squad for the 2010 World Cup.

Milan are without right-back Massimo Oddo, with manager Leonardo hinting that Beckham could start in defence.

He said: "I would be happy to play in any position, in defence, in attack."

With the Major League Soccer season at an end, Beckham hopes his second spell with the seven-time European champions will persuade England manager Fabio Capello to include him in his final squad for South Africa next summer.

However, the midfielder denied there would be any resentment from his Rossoneri team-mates should he take their place in the starting XI.

"I am not expected to start the games," said Beckham. "I just want to be part of the team. Players are not jealous. They were happy to see me back.

"My experience with the club was so special for six months. It was one of the best six months of my career.

"I missed the team, the players, the fans. The group is very similar. It is the same at Manchester United, it never changes.

Beckham admitted he "almost cried" when Milan were drawn against former club United in the last 16 of the Champions League.

"I love the club. It's going to be an emotional night. I have never returned to Old Trafford in six years. It has always had a special place in my heart," he told a news conference.

"It is business. We want to win the game."

And he said he wants to add an Italian league title to his glittering honours list.

"To win a title is my number one wish. To win a title with AC Milan," he added. "I don't think the league has lost any charm. Definitely not."
