MATCH PREVIEW

Blackburn have been enduring a miserable time in the Premier League and have failed to score in their last two matches, but news that manager Sam Allardyce has left hospital following heart surgery is a boost for the Rovers camp.

Allardyce is convalescing at home and will not attend Wednesday's game against a Chelsea side that are top of the table and unbeaten in nine matches.

Blackburn know all about Chelsea's quality, having been thrashed 5-0 by them at Stamford Bridge earlier this season - a result that left Allardyce furious with his players.

Rovers would atone for that debacle if they defy the odds and claim a place in the Carling Cup semi-finals. They would also maintain Allardyce's hopes of going one better than when he led Bolton to the 2004 final, which they lost to Middlesbrough.
