Beasley urges Gers to keep stars

DaMarcus Beasley says Rangers "100 per cent" need to hold on to all of their key players if they want to retain the Scottish Premier League title.

Pedro Mendes and Kris Boyd have been the subject of continued speculation over potential moves away from the financially-stricken club recently.

But Beasley stressed: "We need everyone to stay - Boydy, Pedro, all the people that have been mentioned.

"We need them to help us regain the title and be back-to-back champions."

Rangers have underlined that they are under no financial obligation to sell players during this transfer window, despite a debt of more than £30m and their ongoing search for a new owner.

But with Boyd, Beasley and others out of contract in the summer, potential buyers could yet test Rangers' resolve.

"When you look at the team now, if a couple of guys get injured, we're pretty thin in every position. We need our guys to stay," added Beasley.

"With myself, Pedro and Steven Naismith to come back into the team, it's going to create problems for the gaffer to pick who is going to play but it's a good problem to have."

Beasley is currently recovering from an injury sustained just as he had arguably hit his best form since joining Rangers.

I just want to play and get back in the team and show why they bought me

And he says getting fit and back in the team is his main priority just now, not resolving his future.

"I've not spoken to Rangers or anybody else about what I'm going to do," he continued.

"I'll see what goes on and what happens in the last half of the season. I've never said I want to leave so if they came to me, my representatives would sit down and talk to them and see what is the best thing for me.

"If the best thing is for me to stay, I would be more than happy to stay. I've only played five or six games so it's kind of hard for me to talk about contract talks.

"I just want to play and get back in the team and show why they bought me. I'm just trying to get back in the team and get fit. What happens in January will happen, but I'm not looking to leave.

"If something came along that I couldn't pass up, then so be it. But, at the same time, I'm not looking to leave. I want to stay."
