Ethiopian legend Kenenisa Bekele has insisted the cold weather will not stop him claiming a fourth Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country crown.

Saturday's race is set to go ahead, despite freezing temperatures, and the 27-year-old is in confident mood.

"It is not always 23 degrees in Ethiopia, sometimes in the morning it is 10 degrees so I train in that weather," said Bekele.

"I ran in Scotland in the snow five years ago so I know I can do it."

After missing last year's race through injury, Bekele will face a tough field as he attempts to regain his Edinburgh title.

World cross country champion Gebre Gebremariam - last year's runner-up - and Kenya's 2005 winner Eliud Kipchoge are both set to line up for the 9km race and are expected to challenge Bekele.

"For me it is good to start the season with cross country," said Bekele, the 5,000m and 10,000m Olympic and world champion.

"I am good at cross country so it won't be that hard to start my season with that race."
