Paterson and Brown in for Scots

Chris Paterson and Kelly Brown
Paterson and Brown are poised to be named in the side at midday

Chris Paterson is likely to start at full-back for Scotland in their Six Nations opener against France, in the absence of Rory Lamont through injury.

Kelly Brown will replace the injured Alasdair Strokosch in the back row, BBC Scotland understands.

The Evans brothers - Tom and Max - are reunited in the back division, while Phil Godman gets the nod at fly-half.

Scotland coach Andy Robinson will name his team for Sunday's game at Murrayfield at midday on Tuesday.

Edinburgh man Paterson is poised to be given the start that will take him within one cap of reaching his century for Scotland.

Strokosch and Lamont were ruled out of the game on Monday.

Gloucester flanker Strokosch has returned to his club for further treatment on the ankle injury he sustained playing for them last month.

Toulon full-back Lamont only recently returned from injury but also requires rehabilitation on an ankle problem.

The loss of Strokosch will be a particular blow, with the 26-year-old having been appointed Robinson's pack leader during the autumn internationals.

Forward Sebastien Chabal has been forced to withdraw from France's squad because of a back injury.

Likely Scotland starting line-up: Paterson, S Lamont, M Evans, Morrison, T Evans, Godman, Cusiter (capt), Dickinson, Ford, Lowe, Kellock, Hines, K Brown, Beattie, Barclay.
