Ashraful back for World Twenty20

Bangladesh have named former captain Mohammad Ashraful in their final 15-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20 in the West Indies, which begins on 30 April.

Ashraful was left out of the recent one-day and Test series against England because of poor batting form.

But he is in the party for the Caribbean, along with paceman Mashrafe Mortaza who missed the Tests while recovering from knee surgery.

There are no uncapped players in the selection, which has been cut from 30.

However, the least experienced pair in skipper Shakib Al Hasan's squad are batsman Jahurul Islam, who made his Bangladesh debut in last week's second Test in Mirpur, and left-arm spinner Suhrawadi Shuvo whose international bow came in two of the recent one-day internationals.

Jahurul will also act as back-up wicketkeeper to vice captain Mushfiqur Rahim, while apart from Ashraful, the only squad member who did not feature against England was seamer Syed Rasel.

Chairman of selectors Rafiqul Alam said: "Ashraful is a potential match-winner and his ability to improvise in limited-overs cricket makes him an important part of the team in the tournament.

"We know he is trying as hard as anybody to fulfil his enormous promise and we expect him to fire.

"From the information we have received on Mortaza, he is fit and has been in full rhythm at the training of his Indian Premier League club, Kolkata Knight Riders."

Bangladesh reached the Super Eights phase at the expense of West Indies at the World Twenty20 in 2007, but were beaten by Ireland in the group stage of last year's event.

However, they face an uphill task this time around to progress from a group containing Australia and holders Pakistan.
