Richard Dunne has joined Robbie Keane in pulling out of the Republic of Ireland's friendly against Brazil on Tuesday at the Emirates Stadium.

Dunne has withdrawn from the squad after sustaining an unspecified muscle injury in Aston Villa's Carling Cup final defeat by Manchester United.

Keane aggravated a knee injury in Celtic's defeat by Rangers on Sunday.

Hibernian striker Anthony Stokes has been drafted into the squad but Dunne will not be replaced.

Wigan's James McCarthy did not train on Sunday because of an ankle injury but he remains in line to win a first cap.

Portsmouth's Marc Wilson and Manchester City's Greg Cunningham could also be given debuts by Republic manager Giovanni Trapattoni after their first call-ups to the senior squad.

McCarthy has rebuffed attempts in recent weeks to convince him to switch his allegiance to his native Scotland.

Ireland youth manager Sean McCaffrey spotted McCarthy's talents as a youngster and the Wigan player is remaining loyal to the Irish.

"Scotland never chose me. I wasn't good enough," said McCarthy on Sunday.

"Ireland picked me in their (youth) squads. Sean McCaffrey picked me in those squads and I was delighted and all my family are happy with it."

Wolsburg striker Grafite and Hoffenheim midfielder Carlos Eduardo have been drafted into the Brazil squad.

The players have been selected by coach Dunga after Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano pulled out because of a muscle injury.

The match against the Republic is Brazil's last scheduled friendly before the World Cup in South Africa.
