Lippi won five Serie A titles when coach of Juventus

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has hinted he will step down for a second time after this summer's World Cup.

The 61-year-old revealed that Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete "already knows what I will do" after the tournament in South Africa.

Lippi previously resigned after leading Italy to World Cup glory in 2006 but returned only two years later.

He has been linked with a return to Juventus, where he won five Serie A titles during two previous spells.

The Italian side sacked former manager Ciro Ferrara in January and appointed Alberto Zaccheroni as caretaker, but they currently lie sixth in Serie A and exited Europe with a 4-1 second-leg defeat at Fulham in the Europa League.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti and Cagliari coach Massimiliano Allegri would be among the contenders if the Italy position became vacant.

In a professional career which started in 1969, Lippi spent most of his playing years with Sampdoria, where he played consecutively from 1969 to 1980 before having managerial spells with, among others, Atalanta, Napoli, Juventus and Inter Milan.
