Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has no fresh injury concerns so could name the same line-up that held Arsenal to a draw last weekend.
However, Kevin Phillips pushed his claim for a rare start by scoring his 250th career goal in that game.
Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani and youngster Martin Kelly have joined injured defenders Fabio Aurelio and Martin Skrtel on the sidelines.
Aquilani has a season-threatening ankle problem, while Kelly has a knee injury.
Birmingham
Injured: Carsley (ankle), O'Connor (groin), Murphy (hamstring)
Liverpool
Injured: Aquilani (ankle), Aurelio (thigh), Kelly (knee), Skrtel (foot)
For Liverpool to have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League, Rafa Benitez must finally beat the Blues in the Premier League.
We want Liverpool going back up that M6 saying "that's a tough place to go"

Liverpool's manager has not won any of the previous seven top-flight meetings against Birmingham, who are the only Premier League club past or present to deny him all three points. Fact-lover Benitez will not be so fond of that one.
In the reverse fixture Liverpool needed a highly dubious penalty to rescue a fifth successive draw in this fixture, when David Ngog's tumble in the box was described by the penalised Lee Carsley as an "embarrassing case of cheating".
Birmingham are proving an irritant to the leading sides, having picked up points against the top five at St Andrew's, where they are unbeaten since September. Should they finish in their current ninth position it will be their highest top-flight finish for 51 years.
However, a note of caution for the hosts: despite their unbeaten league record against Benitez, Birmingham suffered a club record 7-0 FA Cup home defeat at the hands of the Spaniard four years ago.
Head-to-head
• Birmingham are unbeaten in their last seven league games against Liverpool, although the last five meetings were drawn.
• However, Liverpool have won two cup ties at St Andrew's during that period - including a 7-0 FA Cup sixth-round victory in March 2006.

Birmingham
• Birmingham are unbeaten in their last 12 home games, their longest unbeaten run in the top flight since a 14-match streak from November 1973 to April 1974.
• They are winless in their last four league games and have only managed three victories in 12 matches in 2010.
• Their only clean sheet in the last 12 games came in the 1-0 home win against Wigan in February.
• James McFadden is poised to make his 200th club career start. He has scored 49 goals in the English and Scottish Leagues.
Liverpool
• Liverpool are without an away win in six league games, their worst run since a seven-match streak from August to November 2006.
• They have lost three of their last seven league matches, having lost only three of their previous 16 games.
• Their 14-point haul from 16 away matches is the lowest of any club currently in the top nine of the table.
• Fernando Torres has scored five goals in the last three league matches.
