Local favourite Ding Junhui delighted the home fans with a 5-2 win over defending champion Peter Ebdon in the quarter-finals of the China Open.

Ding was 4-0 ahead with runs of 93, 121 and 92, but Ebdon ground out the next two frames with runs of 70 and 49.

But Ding, 23, won the seventh frame 81-0 and booked a semi-final with Mark Allen, who beat Stephen Hendry 5-4.

Hendry had a break of 126 and was 4-2 up but Allen won the decider with a 77, his highest of the contest.

After Hendry's assured century break levelled the match at 1-1, the seven-time world champion's highest for the remainder of the match was just 36 as Allen began to find his touch.

The remaining quarter-finals between Mark Williams and Marco Fu and Ali Carter and Mark King take place later on Friday.
