Hamilton finished sixth in Australia after a strategy error

Lewis Hamilton says he has "complete trust" in his McLaren team to make the right strategic calls for him at Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix.

The 2008 champion had accused his team of getting it wrong in Australia when he lost ground after a second pit stop.

But Hamilton explained: "I have complete trust in the team, because when I'm in the car I don't know what's going on in front or behind me.

"There was no need to make up - we're a team and we win and lose together."

Hamilton finished sixth at the Australian Grand Prix but had been running third and closing in on Renault's Robert Kubica in second before he made a second stop for a fresh set of tyres.

The 25-year-old vented his frustration over the team radio in the latter stages of the race and was clearly still unhappy after crossing the finish line.

"The strategy was not right," he said at the end of the race. "I drove my heart out and I deserved better."

That strategy call was in contrast to another race-defining decision made by his McLaren team-mate Jenson Button, who was the first driver to pit on a drying track.

Button was running in seventh when he made the call and went on to take the chequered flag after Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel's broke down while leading the race.

"We took the decision and whether it was right or wrong doesn't really matter," said Hamilton, who had vented his frustration over the team radio in the latter stages of the race.

"My heart was so into the race, my adrenalin was sky-rocketing and so you don't always say the right things when you get out the car."

"We're still trying to come to terms with the new regulations on non-refuelling and trying to understand how long the tyres last, so we'll learn from it in this next race.

"It was so great to see Jenson win and I do feel at some stage I'll get my chance to win races.

"We have good straight line speed and our race pace is strong, which is comforting."
