Murray enters Monte Carlo Masters

Andy Murray will start his clay-court season earlier than planned as a wildcard at the Monte Carlo Masters.

The British number one's form has dipped since his Australian Open final defeat by Roger Federer in January.

And his bad run continued this week when he lost in straights sets to Mardy Fish in the Miami Masters second round.

That has prompted the Scot to begin his French Open build-up in April in Monte Carlo, where in 2009 he lost his semi-final to eventual winner Rafael Nadal.

World number three Murray intends to play two more tournaments - the Rome Masters which starts on 25 April and the Madrid Open from 9-16 May - before his Roland Garros campaign begins in late May.

This year's Monte Carlo tournament, which starts on 11 April, is not a mandatory event and world number one Roger Federer has opted to skip it as he prepares for his Roland Garros defence.

Murray will be hoping to go beyond the quarter-finals in Paris after losing in four sets to Chilean Fernando Gonzalez last year.
