Donovan return unlikely - Moyes

Donovan made a big impact at Everton

Everton boss David Moyes has played down the chances of a second loan spell at Goodison Park for Landon Donovan.

The USA captain, 28, was a big hit with Everton supporters while on loan for 13 games from the LA Galaxy last season.

But Moyes said: "We'd love to have Landon [back] but he looks too expensive for us.

"We don't have the finances. The price that Major League Soccer wants for him is very big and it's an additional problem because of his age."

Donovan scored three goals during his three-month stay at Everton earlier this year and went on to enjoy a good World Cup in South Africa for the USA.

Moyes said Everton's tight finances would limit signings at the club during the rest of the summer transfer window.

"All we've done is spend £1m on Magaye Gueye so far," said the Scot.

"Jermaine Beckford and Jan Mucha were free [transfers], so we've spent no money by Premier League standards and will probably be the ones who spend the least this season."

Everton also lost Ryan Gosling after failing to formally offer the midfielder a new deal, allowing him to become a free agent and join Newcastle United.
